MENOMINEE — Menominee County Prosecuting Attorney Jeffrey Rogg recently obtained the ninth, 10th and 11th felony convictions of 2024.

    They include:

    • Asher A. McNeil, 41, Menominee, three to five years in prison for attempted threat of terrorism on March 28, 2024. The sentence was handed down May 10 by 41st Circuit Judge Christopher S. Ninomiya.

According to court documents and information presented in open court, on Oct. 23, 2023, a Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) manager reported to Menominee Police Department (MPD) Officers that McNeil had called the agency to request assistance with his furnace. McNeil quickly became irate and unreasonable when told the procedure for seeking such help.

The MDHHS manager got on the phone with McNeil, who screamed that “if CPS comes over somebody’s gonna get shot,” that “they better bring M-16s with drum magazines,” and that he was “armed with explosives.”

When police arrived, McNeil emerged from his house, located at 312 4th Place in Menominee, and reiterated his terroristic threats by screaming, “I don’t believe in threats, I make promises.’

“McNeil threatened to commit violent acts and had access to weapons and explosives that would have allowed him to carry out those threats,” Rogg said. He said making threats against MDHHS employees who are trying to fulfill their mission and provide help to needy families are reprehensible. He also thanked law enforcement personnel for their work in the case.

    • Raymond V. MacLeod, 39, Travers City, Michigan, 18 months to four years in prison for possession of cocaine. The prison was handed down on May 10 by Judge Ninomiya.

MacLeod was arrested after an Oct. 18, 2023 traffic stop on U.S. 41 near Snow Road in Nadeau Township. A K-9 was deployed and State Troopers located a small metal container with a screwable top, containing 8 grams of cocaine.

Rogg said MacLeod had six prior felony and 17 prior misdemeanor convictions.

“His abject failure to conform is behavior to that required of any law-abiding citizen suggests to me that he is not ready to commit himself to living up to the expectations of the court, nor the laws of our state.” he said.

    • Johnny L. Tucker, 30, Manistique, Michigan, 22 years to 45 years in prison for possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver and possession of methamphetamine, following a two-day trial last month. The sentence was handed down on May 10 by Judge Ninomiya.

Tucker was arrested following a traffic stop June 29, 2023 near the Cedar River Plaza. During a search of the vehicle by detectives with the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team (UPSET), a digital scale, an additional bag containing methamphetamine, and several empty baggies consistent with distribution amounts were also located within it. A female was also arrested in the stop and she testified against Tucker at his trial in exchange for a reduced charge.

“Methamphetamine trafficking funnels poison into our communities,” Rogg said. “This investigation and subsequent conviction of this criminal drug dealer demonstrates my commitment to fight the drug cartels who have no regard for the citizens of our community.”
