    'Jacket netters split two matches in Duluth

    DULUTH—The Hibbing High School boys tennis team split a pair of matches Wednesday at Longview Courts, beating Duluth Denfeld 7-0, but falling to Duluth East by the score of 5-2.

    Against the Hunters, the Bluejackets got singles wins from Isaiah Hildenbrand over Mathias MacMillan, 6-1, 6-3; Keaton Petrick over Valtteri Luhtalampi, 6-2, 6-1; Whitaker Rewertz over Sam Eklund, 6-0, 6-9; and Rex Walli over Nolan Frietag, 6-1, 6-0.

    In doubles, Jack Gabardi and Cooper Hendrickson beat Lenny Jennings and Connor Doyle, 6-0, 6-1; Tyler Fisher and Joey Gabardi beat Jackson Chederquist and Daniel Pueringer, 6-4, 6-2; and Brady Fosso and Benny Galli beat Liam Doyle and Matt Eklund, 6-2, 6-3.

    Against the Greyhounds, Hibbing got a singles win from Petrick over Ben Hefferman, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4; and a doubles win from Galli and Whitaker over David Baumgarten and Owen Steiner, 6-2 6-3.

    Duluth East got singles wins from Ewen Moe over Hendrickson, 6-0, 6-2; Colin McShane over Jack Gabardi, 6-4, 4-6, 10-6; and Wesley Furin over Walli, 6-3, 6-3.

    In doubles, Thomas Gunderson and Karl Kimber beat Joey Gabardi and Fisher, 6-0, 6-1; and Hans Humphreys and Cullen Burns beat Fosso and Ethan Johnson, 7-5, 7-5.

    Conference Meet

    GRAND RAPIDS—Cloquet fired a 314 to win the Lake Superior Conference Meet held at the Pokegama Golf Course.

    Grand Rapids finished second with a 316, followed by Hermantown with a 318. Hibbing had a 317 to place fourth. Proctor/Esko had a 330, Superior 346, Marshall 361 and Duluth Denfeld 372.

    The Bluejackets Andrew Slatten tied for top honors with Holdyn Evjen aof Hermantown with 73s.

    Drew Stanley and William Shermoen of Grand Rapids tied for third with 76s. Lance Sayler of Cloquet and Dallas Loftis of Proctor/Esko tied for fifth with 77s.

    Drew Bussey of Hibbing and Collin Young of Cloquet tied for seventh with 78s, and Karson Young of Cloquet and Jack Slattengren of Hermantown tied for ninth with 79s.

    Ethan Sundvall and Gavin Schweiberger of the Bluejackets tied for 20th with 83s, Sam Gabardi was 32nd with a 90, and Tim Ranta placed 38th with a 94.

    On the girls side, Grand Rapids won the event with a 351, followed by Cloquet at 380, Hermantown 384, Hibbing 420 and Proctor/Esko 436.

    Izzy Fairchild of Hermantown and Leanna Johnson of the Thunderhawks tied for first with 83s. Brianna Dekich of Grand Rapids was third with an 87, and Mia Peters of Grand Rapids was fourth with an 89.

    Abigail Steinert of Cloquet was fifth with 91, Sydney Burggraf and Kiera Dick of Grand Rapiids were tied for sixth with 92s, Adison Johnson of Cloquet was eighth with a 93, and Madison Larson of Grand Rapids and Kourtney Kavanaugh of Cloquet tied for ninth with 96s.

    The Bluejackets’ Kate Toewe was 11th with a 97, Heidi Rasch was 17th with a 105, Ava Bougalis placed 20th with a 108, Blayke Swanger was 22nd with a 110 and Opal Valeri and Alexa Bougalis tied for 23rd with 111s.
