Key Biscayne, FL - A 54-year-old runner has been arrested in connection with the random assault of a cyclist earlier this month.

According to Miami-Dade police, the suspect, identified as Andrew Cobb, assaulted a 56-year-old woman who was riding her bike on the designated path along Crandon Boulevard on July 7th.

Police say the victim encountered Cobb running towards her and attempted to pass him, but Cobb allegedly struck her in the face with a water bottle held in his fist.

The victim sustained injuries from the attack, including a severe cut on her right knee and widespread scrapes and road rash.

Witnesses told investigators that a verbal exchange followed the assault, with Cobb reportedly stating cyclists needed to "share the road."

When a bystander intervened and requested Cobb stay for police arrival, he fled the scene.

The witness was able to identify Cobb in a police lineup, leading to his arrest on Monday.

Cobb reportedly confessed to the attack during a recorded statement.

He was taken into custody and transported to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a felony charge of aggravated battery.
