Miami standing out to in-state four-star ATH Asharri Charles: “It’s always been the school that had that swag in Florida”

When Venice (Fla.) four-star athlete Asharri Charles first received his offer from the Miami Hurricanes in the spring, the 2026 prospect was nearly ready to pull the trigger and commit to the Canes.

While he decided to hold off, Miami remains one of the top programs in Charles’ recruitment heading into the summer ahead of his junior season.

“When I first got the offer from Miami, I was super excited and wanted to commit on the spot,” Charles told CaneSport. “It’s always been the school that had that swag in Florida.”

With offers from a handful of Power 4 programs, the 6-foot-2, 196-pounder is enjoying the early stages of his recruitment. Charles says the Sunshine State’s Big Three (Miami, Florida, and Florida State) and LSU are the four programs that are showing him the most love at the moment.

“It’s been amazing,” Charles said. “Still more to come, but it’s been amazing so far.”

As Charles navigates through his recruiting process, he explained that he will focus on what school has the best track record of sending defensive linemen to the next level and where he feels most comfortable.

“The people in my position and what sent them to that certain school (will be factors),” Charles said. “Also, a place that feels like home.”

With Hurricanes defensive line coach Jason Taylor leading Miami’s lineman, Charles says that is one aspect that has piqued his interest.

“That’s one of the reasons I really like them: Charles said. “All of their defensive linemen are dogs, and they send them up to the next level. I just want to be one of those.”

Later this summer Charles, who is the No. 183 overall prospect in the 2026 class, will be in Miami for an unofficial visit as he hopes to continue to strengthen his relationship with the staff and get a better understanding of what the program is all about.

“I have plans to visit Miami in late July,” Charles said. “I’m going to be looking at the culture down there and what they do for fun, as well as the campus.”

    CaneSport’s take

Charles is one of the top defensive linemen in the Sunshine State, and Miami is making him feel like a priority early. It’s still early in his recruitment, but I like where the Hurricanes stand.
