Over a year ago, Miami wide receivers coach Kevin Beard offered a rising 2026 wide receiver out of Jacksonville (Fla.) Bolles High School named Naeem Burroughs . Then the talented pass catcher was just beginning to make a name for himself, and he has since become one of the most sought-after wideouts in the country.

Heading into his junior year Miami remains a program high on Burroughs’ list, and that is in part thanks to Beard.

“Me and Coach Beard talk a lot,” Burroughs told CaneSport. “He wants me to get down there later this summer to get to know the coaches and see the campus.”

When asked about his relationship with Beard, Burroughs explained how it extends far beyond football.

“What stands out the most is just the different conversations we have,” Burroughs said. “Contrary to football, we’ll talk about mental things and just different stuff like that. Being able to talk about stuff outside of football is big.”

Burroughs also speaks highly of the Hurricanes program and the direction that Miami is heading. According to the On3 Industry Ranking, the 5-foot-11, 160-pounder is the No. 83 overall prospect in the 2026 class.

“Miami is a great program and has always been a great program,” Burroughs said. “They’re building it back up. I see the potential.”

Along with the Canes, Burroughs is also high on programs such as FSU, Florida. Clemson, LSU, Auburn and Tennessee. Certainly they all took note of his monster 2023 season in which Burroughs hauled in 47 passes for 1,019 yards and 15 touchdowns.

“Relationships and the energy coaches give off,” Burroughs said of what he is looking for from programs in his recruitment. “Also the development of the wide receivers in the program.”

    CaneSport’s take

With a visit in the works for later this summer, getting Burroughs on campus for the first time will be crucial for the Canes, who are battling several programs across the country for the talented pass catcher. “Just feeling the vibe of the coaches,” Burroughs said when asked what he would look forward to on his visit to Miami. “And hopefully it makes me want to come back for a game.”
