The Miami Hurricanes are expected by some to have a resurgence on the football field this year. The team is in search of its first 10-win season since 2017.

College football analyst Josh Pate discussed what Miami needs to prove in the upcoming season. He said the following on " The Late Kick with Josh Pate ."

"They have to execute in games," Pate opined. "Yes, it's great to talk about transfer portal, and they've done a great job on that front. Yes, it's great to talk about recruiting. ... You've gotta do it on Saturday."

There's plenty to like about the portal class led by transfer quarterback Cam Ward. The veteran passer is viewed as one of the top signal callers in college football. Ward will be asked to elevate the team to a higher level in 2024.

Last season saw Miami go 7-6 despite a huge opening game victory over Texas A&M. While the trajectory of the program seems to trend positively, winning 10 games would require the team to make significant strides.

The Hurricanes' schedule lends itself to a potential breakout run. The team's top tests figure to be against the Florida Gators and Florida State Seminoles . Virginia Tech , Georgia Tech and Duke are among the other potentially tough tests on the schedule.

The Hurricanes will look to get out to a fast start against the Florida Gators in the season opener. The teams will play in Week 1 on Aug. 31.
