Three days after losing out on one cornerback target, the Miami Hurricanes snagged a big one on Saturday when they received a nonbinding commitment from four-star Louisiana-based cornerback prospect Jaboree Antoine, who picked UM over LSU and FSU.

247 Sports lists Antoine as the No. 8 cornerback and No. 71 overall player in this class. On.3 ranks him the No. 9 cornerback and No. 87 prospect.

His commitment comes about 72 hours after five-star cornerback DJ Pickett picked LSU over UM and Oregon.

Antoine, who attends Westlake High in Iberia, Louisiana, de-committed from LSU in June but was considered recommitting to the Tigers before informing UM on Friday that he would become a Hurricane.

“Really it came down to a late decision,” Antoine said on social media and On.3’s announcement show Saturday. “I just had a lot of questions I had to get answered.. [UM] was unmatchable, really.”

He said the Canes are “getting a leader on and off the field. You’re getting a corner that can take away one side of the field, and we’re going to try to win a” national title.

Antoine - who visited UM twice, most recently on May 31 - said “everybody on the [UM] staff was excited” when he revealed his commitment. “I’m ready to get out there right now.”

Antoine appeared in just five games last season because of a collarbone injury. In 2022, he 32 tackles with 11 pass breakups and five interceptions. He also played quarterback in 2022 and completed 105 of 186 pass attempts for 1,650 yards and 12 touchdown passes.

Antoine, who’s 6-1 and 180 pounds, joins four-star prospect Chris Ewald Jr. and three-star Timothy Merritt as cornerback commitments in UM’s 2025 class. Four-star prospect Amari Wallace, another UM commitment, can play cornerback or safety.

Meanwhile, the Canes remain in the mix for several other highly-regarded defensive backs:

    ▪ Four-star Miami Columbus safety Bryce Fitzgerald, who’s expected to announce in mid-August. UF and FSU are also very much in play.

    ▪ Booker T. Washington cornerback Ben Hanks Jr., who is rated the No. 10 cornerback and No. 81 player overall. He’s considering UM, FSU, UF and Louisville. On3.com has made UF the front-runner.

    ▪ Louisiana-based three-star prospect Aiden Anding, who is ranked No. 38 among corners by 247 Sports. Texas, TCU, LSU and Arkansas are also in the mix.

One of UM’s targets on offense, Orlando (Fla.) Jones four-star 2025 receiver Vernell Brown III, is expected to choose among UM, FSU, UF and Ohio State on Sunday.

The Canes now have 19 Class of 2025 commitments, and 13 since June 1, mostly from four-star prospects. 247 Sports ranks UM’s class eighth in the country.
