TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – A 17-year-old is in critical condition after she was repeatedly stabbed at Miami International Airport on Saturday night, causing chaos in the terminal.

The stabbing occurred around 11:33 p.m. on the fourth floor of Terminal J in International Arrivals in the pre-security area.

According to the Miami-Dade Police Department, a man repeatedly stabbed the teen and tried to throw her over the railing. Luckily, she was able to escape and ran to the third floor where police officers found her.

Police said the stabbing was “without provocation.”

The victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The suspect, identified as 29-year-old Alexander Love, was taken into custody where he is facing an attempted murder charge.

According to officials, police initially received reports about a possible active shooter. The incident halted airport operations until authorities could determine the chaos stemmed from the stabbing.

“There is no impact at all to airport operations, and it is considered an isolated incident,” Miami-Dade Police spokesperson Angel Rodriguez said.

Love was arrested in the terminal where the stabbing happened. Police also found the knife used in the attack.

A passenger spoke to WTVJ and said she and her family had an argument before chaos erupted.

“We heard the escalation of the fight and somebody said run,” Dana, a Delta Airlines passenger said. “When they said run, we all ran.”

Operations at the airport have since returned to normal.
