The Miami Hurricanes are poised to have a breakout 2024 season with a loaded roster led by players like quarterback Cam Ward and middle linebacker Francisco Mauigoa.

With all the talent that Mario Cristobal and his staff acquire, just how good will Miami’s win-loss record be? One must also consider an easier 2024 football schedule for Miami , and it’s Year 3 for the current staff with both coordinators returning to Coral Gables.

Here’s how the AllHurricanes staff sees the 2024 season unfolding.

If not this season, when? The Hurricanes should make a run at the College Football Playoff. Time to prove it.

Miami has a big-time Transfer Portal quarterback in Cam Ward , an experienced and athletic offensive line, a bevy of offensive skill players, one of college football’s best defensive lines led by Rueben Bain, Jr., a big-time middle linebacker in Francisco Mauigoa , and there’s talent in the secondary.

The defensive backs are the biggest question mark coming off a 2023 season allowing 216 yards through the air ( CFB Stats ), good for just 55th in college football.

If Miami shores up the pass defense, a weaker schedule should lead to 10 wins and that’s my prediction. The key games are at Florida (Aug. 31), Virginia Tech at Miami (Sep. 27), Miami at Louisville (Oct. 19), Florida State at Miami (Oct. 26), and Miami at Georgia Tech (Nov. 9).

It is time for Miami to not have one of those “What just happened?” games for an entire season. That’s why VT and GT are possible losses. The other games mentioned above will be big-time battles. It's time for Miami to prove it's a national program again and the talent is available to make it happen.

This is the deepest Miami Hurricanes football team I've covered in at least the past decade. Transfer quarterback Cam Ward arrives with high expectations. He was just named ACC Preseason Player Of The Year. The Hurricanes have the most productive returning group of wide receivers in the ACC and arguably the best running back room in the conference.

Miami's sheer size and strength on the offensive and defensive lines will put them in a position to impose their will on most opponents. They essentially have three full sets of pass rushers with players like Rueben Bain , Tyler Baron, Akheem Mesidor , Elijah Alston and Malik Bryant headlining the group.

The schedule is manageable. The Hurricanes avoid Clemson and NC State, which should be two of the top five teams in the ACC this season. Games against Florida, Florida State and Louisville appear to be their toughest challenges on paper, but Miami needs to avoid losing focus in their trap games. The hope is that a stronger locker room and a player-led mentality will keep the team focused for all twelve regular season games.

The Hurricanes have a league-high five selections on the All-ACC preseason team (Ward, WR Xavier Restrepo , Bain, LB Kiko Mauigoa and K Andy Borregales .)

If the Hurricanes can stay focused and remain relatively healthy, they should be able to reach double digit victories and flirt with their first ACC Championship.

Mario Cristobal heads into Year Three at Miami with easily his best roster yet. A roster littered with all-conference talent and future NFL contributors, the national hype for Miami is the highest it has been in years.

While many are making the comparison that the Hurricanes in 2024 could be the 2023 version of the Texas Longhorns, I don't know if I am quite sold on a one loss regular season for Miami.

Miami won't have to face Clemson or NC State in their ACC schedule, but I believe teams like Syracuse, Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech could provide a lot closer games than fans might want to believe.

If the Hurricanes have the odds fall in their favor, they could lose one out of conference game and two conference games and make an appearance in the ACC Championship game.

However, the Hurricanes could very well be a top ten team next season if Cam Ward is able to play at a Heisman level and Miami's secondary is able to do good enough without Kamren Kinchens and James Williams patrolling the field.
