It was an outstanding win for the Miami Marlins on Sunday afternoon at Truist Park against the Atlanta Braves. They shut out the Braves 7-0 on a great day on both sides of the diamond.
The Marlins starting pitcher Edward Cabrera had a quality start on Sunday, going five innings and only giving up three hits and two walks, and he struck out eight batters. There was also good pitching by the bullpen.
The Braves, on the other hand, have been shut out for the sixth time this season. They almost got one run on an Austin Riley base hit, in which Jorge Soler originally was called safe at the plate, but the call was overturned to out after the Marlins challenged the call and there was just enough clear evidence on replay.
On offense, despite Marlins hitters striking out 13 times, they scored seven runs on nine hits. Six of the runs came in the top of the fourth inning, including Xavier Edward's RBI single to make his on-base streak 21 consecutive games. Jonah Bride had a big three-run home run that essentially sealed it for Miami. They were also able to knock out Max Fried with one out in the third inning. It was Fried's first start since his stint on the injured list began in mid-July.
The Braves have now lost two games in a row. They still sit at the top wild card spot in the National League by one game at this time.
The Marlins will now go home and get ready for a new four-game series, this time with the Cincinnati Reds.
