The 2025 Miami recruiting class has a future leader for the defense.

Playing for Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy, this inside linebacker is rated as a 4-star recruit by Rivals, ESPN, and 247. He's also returning for his senior season with 42 tackles, 7 tackles for loss, and 5 sacks from eight games, helping lead IMG to the No. 4 overall national ranking by USA Today.

Gavin Nix is an all-around teammate and leader for a loaded prep football roster with more than 30 players likely to play at the FBS level. Beyond his prep accomplishments, he took the time to discuss his future as a Miami player with AllHurricanes .

First, Nix discusses how he feels about the chance to attend the University of Miami.

"I'm extremely excited man," Nix began. "It's a blessing. I'm glad that recruiting is over now, but as of right now, I'm strictly focused on my season. Continue this brotherhood and finish my last season (at IMG) with a bang. But I'm extremely excited to get to Miami and can't wait to get to work."

Nix also discusses his goals as a Miami freshman.

"Really, I just want to come in and earn a job. My main focus will be making sure that I am secure on the football field, making sure I'm doing everything I need to do. Football is the main reason I'm there so I want to keep the main thing the main thing.

"Outside of that, once I get comfortable in the ways of being at the University of Miami, I'll start to build off of what I want to do outside of football. The main is still making sure that I know my playbook, making sure I can be an impact player early on."

Nix is also excited to play for linebacker coach Derek Nicholson .

"First, there's a whole bunch of energy, a whole bunch of juice. Coach Nicholson is probably the most passionate coach that I've ever been around as far as college recruiting goes. He doesn't come to any conversation without juice.

"He's a strong man in his faith. It's not all about football when we're talking. He's versatile. It depends on what you're talking about. He's really structured. he's super real with you."

As for helping UM's recruiting class, Nix is communicating with multiple prospects.

"As many people as I can get. Until it's officially over with. I'm going to keep pushing with whomever I find. We'll see how that goes when the time comes."

Nix and IMG Academy open their 2024 football season on the road against Draper (Utah) Corner Canyon, a team with four Utah state titles in the last six seasons.
