The Miami Marlins (42-71) will not have much to smile about when it comes to the on-field performance of their Major League club. On Monday night, however, a massive home run put a smile on the face of even the most jaded fan.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, down seven runs to the Cincinnati Reds (54-58) Marlins outfielder Jesus Sanchez hit a leadoff home run on a 1-1 changeup that travelled 480 feet. The longest home run in MLB this season. Here is Sanchez's moonshot from Monday night:

That home run would be the 13th for Sanchez this season, and 54th of his career. It would be Sanchez's only hit of the night, making him 1-for-4 with one home run, one RBI, and one run.

Sanchez, 26, now enters Tuesday with a .241/.289/.414 batting line this season with 13 home runs, 42 RBI, and a 92 OPS+. One of the lone remaining multi-year veterans for the Marlins after the MLB Trade Deadline, the young roster now looks to him for stability.

The outfielder's Baseball Savant page shows a much different story than his numbers on the season. Sanchez enters Tuesday ranked in the top-23 percent for xWOBA, top-25 percent for xBA, top-10 percent for xBA, top-five percent for average exit velocity, top-17 percent for barrel rate, and top-five percent for hard hit rate. Ranking as highly as he does in all of the above indicates that he has been generally unlucky this season and may turn things around down the stretch.

Whether Sanchez is able to right the ship or not this season, he will forever have the memory of a 480-foot Major League home run.
