An area resident was arrested by Maryland State Police last week after allegedly brandishing a firearm during a reported road rage incident, authorities said.

Jason Catanzariti, 53, of Middle River is facing multiple charges, including felony assault, use of a gun in commission of a felony, and other related offenses. He is being held without bond at the Baltimore County Detention Center, officials said.

On the evening of July 18, Maryland State Troopers from the Golden Ring Barrack in Essex were called to northbound I-95 at I-695 — Exit 49 in southwestern Baltimore County — for the report of a road rage incident.

The incident involved a driver, later identified as Catanzariti, who allegedly pointed a handgun at a motorist, police said.

As the motorist involved called 9-1-1 and spoke with emergency dispatch personnel, he described the suspect's vehicle "as a gray Subaru with Maryland registration," a Maryland State Police statement says.

Immediately following the emergency call, law enforcement sought the suspect.

Around 8:30 p.m. on July 18, Maryland State Troopers located the suspect vehicle and the driver at a residence in Middle River, officials said, adding that police recovered a loaded firearm believed to have been used during the incident.

Catanzariti was arrested without incident and transported to the Maryland State Police Golden Ring Barrack for processing. If convicted, Catanzariti faces a mandatory five-year prison sentence, police said.

As the Maryland Department of State Police strives to create safer communities throughout the state — including actively addressing all reported incidents of gun violence on highways — the agency urges motorists are to prioritize highway safety by avoiding impaired and aggressive driving, obeying the speed limit and not driving distracted to prevent injuries and fatalities.
