MIDDLETOWN — MOT blanked Camden-Wyoming, 4-0, in seven innings on Thursday night to capture the District I title in Major League baseball
The Middletown-area all-stars finished 3-0 in the tourney in Little League’s division for 11-12 year olds.
MOT has won three district titles in a row and 20 since 2002. Middletown out-scored its three opponents by a 22-4 margin.
Thursday’s contest was scoreless until MOT scored all four of its runs in the top of the seventh. Liem Fitzgerald had a two-run single in the inning while Billy Windley pitched a four-hitter with nine strikeouts and no walks.
The defending state champion, MOT is also hosting the state tournament, which begins on July 24.
Camden-Wyoming, which won three-straight games in the losers’ bracket, finishes with a record 4-2 in the tournament.
District III
Milton 6, Lewes 5: Milton forced a second game for the District III title with the win on Thursday night.
The two teams will meet again on Friday at 7 p.m. at Millsboro with the winner representing Sussex County in the state tournament.
Senior League
Rhode Island 6, Camden-Wyoming 3: State champion C-W opened the East Regional with the loss on Thursday in Bangor, ME.
Camden-Wyoming, which is now 7-3 in all-stars, returns to action in the eight-team tourney on Friday with a losers’ bracket game at 7 p.m.
8-10 tournament
MOT 15, Camden-Wyoming 5: The Middletown-area all-stars captured the District I championship with the victory on Thursday evening.
The game was tied 5-5 before MOT put up seven runs in the fourth inning. Middletown collected 13 hits in the contest.
MOT finished 4-0 in the tourney to earn a spot in the state tourney, which starts on July 23 at Canal.
Middletown won its four games by a combined, 44-8.
Camden-Wyoming ended up with a record of 2-2 in the tournament.

Junior League
Lower Sussex drops two: State champion Lower Sussex fell twice on the opening day of the East Regional in Orange, Conn. on Thursday.
The Sussex County squad lost to Pennsylvania, 9-0, and then, 10-8, to Massachusetts as the nine-team, double-elimination tourney got underway.
Lower Sussex is back in action on Friday when it takes on Easton, Md. at 11:30 a.m.
College football
Hens’ Gingrich nominated for award: For the second-consecutive season, Delaware football offensive lineman Brock Gingrich has been named a nominee for the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.
Gingrich is one of 178 nominees across all divisions of college football.
The final roster of 23 award recipients – 11 players from the NCAA FBS, 11 from all other divisions and NAIA and one honorary head coach – will be announced later in September.
Gingrich has appeared in 36 games with 30 starts at center in his UD career. He has started in all 26 games over the past two seasons.
Gingrich is a four-time member of the CAA Football Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll.He is also active with the UDANCE and Reps for Kids, which both raise money for the B+ Foundation, as well as Food Bank of Delaware and Journey Church.
On campus, Gingrich is a CAA SAAC Rep and works with the UD Choices Committee, BLUE and the 302 Tour.
