    MOT Seniors earn a spot in the World Series

    WORCESTER, Mass. — One way or another, MOT was coming home after today’s game.

    But, after beating Worcester, Mass,., 11-7. the Middletown-area Senior all-stars are coming home to play some more softball.

    MOT’s victory over the host squad in the East Region championship game puts it in the Senior League World Series, which starts on Monday at Lower Sussex.

    With Lower Sussex already in the tournament, Delaware will have two squads in the 10-team championship in Little League’s age division for 13-16 year olds.

    As is tradition, the two Delaware squads will square off in the tourney opener at 6 p.m. on Monday.

    Gracie Riccio had three hits and five RBI to pace MOT, which finished with a record 5-1 in the regional. That included a two-run homerun that tied the contest at 2-2 in the bottom of the first inning.

    After MOT fell behind again, 4-2, Riccio’s two-run double gave MOT the lead back at 5-4.

    A five-run fourth inning helped put the Middletown squad in control. MOT had six hits in the outburst before finishing with 14 in the contest.

    .Winning pitcher Myranda Talmadge, Charlotte Whitman, and Bridget Archer each had two hits.

    New York 4, MOT 0: The Delaware state champions weee eliminated from the Mid-Atlantic Regional with the loss today in Bristol, Conn.

    The Middletown squad finished 1-2 in the tournament.
