    MOT captures state title in Major League baseball

    MIDDLETOWN — MOT blanked Naamans, 3-0, on Saturday to capture the state championship in Major League baseball.

    The Middletown-area all-stars went 2-0 in the tournament in Little League’s age division for 11-12 year-olds.

    MOT moves on to the Mid-Atlantic Regional, which starts next Saturday in Bristol, Conn.

    It is the second-straight year that MOT has won the state title and the seventh time since 2007. Only two Delaware squads have ever reached the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa.

    MOT baseball and softball teams have now won five state championships this summer.

    Winning pitcher Billy Windley threw a three-hitter, striking out 10 and walking only one to earn the shutout.

    Windley also doubled and scored a run in the first inning before hitting a sacrifice fly to bring home a run in the third. Dawson Soldo went 3-for-3.

    MOT is now 5-0 in all-star tournaments with three shutouts.

    8-10 tournament

    MOT 4, Brandywine 2: The Middletown-area all-stars completed their climb out of the losers’ bracket to win the state title on Saturday night.

    MOT won three elimination games in a row, including back-toback victories over Brandywine.

    The state championship sends MOT to the East Regional in Cranston, R.I.

    Pitcher Miles Boggus allowed only one hit and two runs in four and two-thirds innings, with four strikeouts and a pair of walks. Lochlyn Jones pitched the final one and one-third shutout innings allowing one hit with one strikeout and no walks.

    Julian Buller and Anthony Catalfamo (2 RBI) both had RBI doubles in a three-run third inning for MOT. Roman Ficarra and Julian had two hits apiece.

    Intermediate tournament

    MOT opens Series: U.S. East champion MOT opens the Intermediate World Series in Livermore, Calif. on Sunday.

    The Middletown squad will face U.S. Southeast champion Macon, Ga., at 3 p.m. EST.

    MOT is part of the six-team, double-elimination U.S. pool. If it wins, it will play again on Monday afternoon.

    If MOT loses its opener, it will play again on Tuesday,

    The World Series championship game, between the U.S. and the International winners, is scheduled for Aug. 4.
