Perryville, Rising Sun mourn losses of well known officials
PERRYVILLE — Officials and residents of two Cecil County towns are in mourning after the loss of two well-known former elected officials. James “Jim” Eberhardt, Mayor of Perryville from 2004 to 2018, died Tuesday morning. He was 80. Clint Bowers, former Rising Sun Commissioner who served several terms between 2004 and 2012, has also passed. He was 89. The Cecil Whig is working on getting stories from people in each community who knew these men well. A common theme thus far is that both loved their respective towns and would do anything for that town’s benefit.

Woman charged with stealing car from parking lot of Delaware Park
A Dover woman is behind bars, charged with stealing a car from the parking lot of Delaware Park while its owner was busy gambling inside. The incident happened shortly before 6 p.m. June 28 at the casino east of Newark, according to Delaware State Police. The woman plucked the car keys from the victim's jacket, which had been left unattended at a slot machine, police said. She then went out into the parking lot, found the Nissan Altima and drove away with it, police said. Detectives were able to identify the suspect as Breana Brooks, 28. Officers with the Dover Police Department located Brooks in the stolen car the following day. She was charged with motor vehicle theft and was jailed after failing to post $2,000 secured bond.

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – A suspect is in custody following a shooting at a Rehoboth Beach restaurant parking lot last week. The incident happened just before 1 a.m. Friday, at the Big Chill Surf Cantina on Coastal Highway. Delaware State University celebrating 31 years as an institution
DOVER, Del. – Happy anniversary to Delaware State University!. They’re celebrating 31 years since the transition from Delaware State College in 1993. Over the years the school has made changes to expand their programming, including adding a doctoral and associates program and education opportunities in Jamaica and Barbados. Enrollment at the school has doubled to more than 6,000 students over the years. In 2021, DSU became the first Historically Black College and University to acquire another HBCU, Wesley College. The school’s research has also raised millions of dollars from federal agencies.
