Doylestown Biotech Firm Gets Big Grant from Michael J. Fox Parkinson’s Foundation
DOYLESTOWN, PA—A local biotech company has received a $1.49 million grant from the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research to investigate the development of a drug that could help Parkinson’s patients. Kannalife Sciences Inc., which is located in the Pennsylvania Biotechnology Center near the Doylestown Airport, specializes in developing small molecule therapeutics that target inflammation. The new grant will go to studying the effects of a drug known as KLS-13019 on neuroinflammation and other factors associated with Parkinson’s Disease.CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR THE FREE TAPINTO.NET NEWSLETTER KLS-13109 was produced by Neuropathix, which owns Kannalife and is also located in Doylestown. The drug is currently in studies to examine its effectiveness in treating peripheral neuropathy induced by chemotherapy. Parkinson’s is the fastest growing neurodegenerative disorder and affects up to 2% of people over 60. The actor Michael J. Fox launched his foundation after being diagnosed with early-onset Parkinson’s in 1991. Since the foundation was created in 2000, it has raised more than $2 billion for research into the disease.
