ELKTON — Shovels broke ground at the Cecil County Farm Museum and Regional Agricultural Center to prepare for construction of a building that will house public restrooms and a commercial kitchen. Elkton man charged after gun-related incident spurs raid
ELKTON — A man remained jailed on Tuesday after he allegedly pointed a firearm at a visitor outside an Elkton residence over the weekend and threatened to shoot, leading to a police raid in which investigators confiscated more than two and a half ounces of suspect methamphetamine, two loaded handguns and other evidence, according to Cecil County District Court records. Troopers Arrest Man for 6th Offense DUI in Newark
Delaware State Police arrested 43-year-old Ronnie Steele of Delaware City, Delaware, for a 6th offense felony DUI on Monday morning in Newark. On July 1, 2024, at approximately 8:38a.m., a trooper responded to the Lunch Box Garage, located at 2742 Pulaski Highway, Newark, for a report of a black GMC pickup truck blocking the business’ garage doors. Prior to the trooper arriving, the staff approached the truck and made contact with the male driver, who was slumped over the wheel. After staff woke up the driver, he reversed the truck away from the garage doors and fell asleep again after coming to a stop in the parking lot. Upon arriving, the trooper approached the black 2021 GMC Sierra, which was stopped in the parking lot while still in reverse, and observed a sleeping male driver, later identified as Ronnie Steele. After the trooper woke up Steele, he observed multiple signs of impairment throughout his contact with Steele. Steele refused to perform field tests and was taken into custody without incident. A computer inquiry revealed Steele had five prior DUI-related convictions.

Charlestown cancels its celebratory cannon fire
CHARLESTOWN — A small but loud part of town will be quiet this Independence Day. Charlestown officials informed town residents this week that the cannon, situated in Long Point Park at the corner of Water and Conestoga Streets, will not be fired July 4 at 10 a.m. as had been the tradition since 2018. Long Point Park was damaged by the June 24 fire that destroyed a historic waterfront home near the park. The cannon, which was restored by Dan Rubert, was not damaged but its accompanying flagpole was so town officials closed the park as a matter of public safety. The cannon fire was to be part of an Independence Day ceremony at Long Point Park. Town officials said Tuesday that the entire ceremony had been canceled.
