Lent is underway and if you follow Catholic Church tradition, you’ll be ditching beef and chicken every Friday until Easter Sunday.

Personally, I’m not a big fan of the scaly sea creatures -- at least not baked or grilled. But throw it in some batter and deep fry that sucker, or wrap it in a corn tortilla and top it with Pico de Gallo and I'm all in. You also can’t go wrong with a good old fashioned fish filet drenched with tartar sauce between two buns.

The Lenten season means that El Pasoans will be keeping seafood joints busy and packed through Easter, so I’ve compiled a list of affordable spots that you can dive into according to the local Yelp community, opinions of trusted fish taco loving friends, and my own not very discriminating tastebuds.

Deep fried white fish from a drive-thru window? Fish yeah! These are my top two picks for quick stops that won’t have you questioning your religion.

First, you can’t do any better than the OG itself: McDonald’s Filet-O-Fish. If there’s such a thing as a “famous” fish sandwich, the Filet-O-Fish is it.

Lent is also the time of the year for Long John Silver’s to shine, and no fast-food place gives you more bang for your batter than their unhealthy under the sea deliciousness. Extra batter crumbs on mine, please.
