Felton Man Charged in Police Pursuit

On June 10, 2024 at approximately 2:28 p.m., Milford Police Department conducted a traffic stop in the area of NW Front St and North St. The officer made contact with the operator of the vehicle and as the officer returned to his patrol vehicle, the suspect vehicle fled from the traffic stop. A short pursuit ensued with the suspect vehicle ending on Linstone Ln. Milford.

Officers made contact with the operator and took him into custody without further incident. The operator was identified as Gene Smith, 24 of Felton, DE. During a search of the vehicle, officers located a loaded shotgun in the trunk of the vehicle. Smith is a person prohibited and unable to possess any firearms. Smith was transported back to Milford PD. Smith was charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited, Disregarding a Police Officer Signal and several moving violations. Smith had a presentment through the Justice of the Peace Court 2 and was committed to the Delaware Department of Corrections in default of $12,300 cash bail only. He was ordered to appear at a later date in the Kent County Court of Common Pleas for a preliminary hearing.
