Victim of Millcreek hit-and-run dies from injuries; Police looking for suspect

MILLCREEK, Utah — Sierra VanOrman never imagined a day she'd have to live without her baby sister, Lindsey VanOrman.

"I'd tell her every day: 'I love you, please be safe,' and you never expect it to be the last time," Sierra said.

Sierra says 20-year-old Lindsey spent her life caring for others, whether that be the troubled teens she worked with or a cat hurt in the road.

"No word really describes the light that she just shined. Everyone that was around her just basked in her love because it was just flowing from her every day," Sierra said. "If you were close to her, she would always bring you just random little baked goods, and if she knew that you'd like something, she'd go out of her way to bring you something."

Sadly, Lindsey's life was cut short. The Unified Police Department says Lindsey got out of her vehicle to try to check on a cat that had been hit at around 5:56 a.m. near 3051 S. 2300 East. While she was trying to help the cat, a passing driver hit Lindsey and then drove off. Sierra says Lindsey was just a block away from being home when the hit-and-run happened.

Lindsey was taken to the hospital in critical condition, where she ultimately succumbed to her injuries Saturday night.

"They said it's not looking good, and you just hope, and then it just took a turn for the worse and the damage to her brain was too much," Sierra said.

UPD released doorbell camera footage from residents in the area, showing what they believe is the silver truck or SUV that hit Vanorman. They ask anyone who recognizes the vehicle to contact the department.

Police are also looking to speak to a witness who was driving a black SUV and may have witnessed the hit-and-run.

"The family has lost a member of their family. They deserve answers, and we're going to keep working this case as long as we can to bring that justice to this family," said UPD Sgt. Aymee Race.

Lindsey's family is heartbroken thinking of all the things she wanted to do and accomplish.

"She wanted kids so bad," Sierra said.

They're now pleading for anyone with information that could help to come forward.

"I just hope that whoever did that has the courage to come forward because it's going to take more than courage for me to live every day without her, and all her friends and my whole family," Sierra said.
