* Wood County mibsters (marble players) journeyed once again to the National Marbles Tournament in Wildwood, N.J., and this year, Williamstown Middle High seventh-grader Lucie Clark finished in the events semifinals. Clark, 12, was joined by other Wood County Marbles Club members Sophia Drennen, Ezra Delbaugh and Ryker Bungard. “These kids really represented our county well with incredible sportsmanship and tremendous skill,” Coach Ryan Ice said. “They battled the best marbles players in the nation and Lucie finished as a semifinalist.” Bonus points, they gave us all the opportunity to learn the word “mibsters.” Congratulations on doing so well in your adventure!
Columbia Blue Through and Through: Vierheller steps down at Parkersburg Catholic after 18 seasons
PARKERSBURG – Marty Vierheller claimed he would never coach any girls basketball team other than Parkersburg Catholic High School. He held true to his word. After spending 30 seasons with the Crusaderettes, including the first 12 years as an assistant coach, Vierheller decided to retire after leading the program to a Class AA state championship in 2022 and multiple appearances at the state tournament in Charleston.
