Major League Baseball is about big league players producing, but it’s their minor league farm systems that feed those rosters. Speaking of prospects, the Minnesota Twins have seen theirs ranking higher and higher by various services, of late, and that certainly didn’t change with the latest Top 100 MLB Pipeline refresh this week.
Major League Baseball’s most popular and accessible prospect tracker and ranking system published an update to their Top 100 list on Monday, and the Minnesota Twins are well represented.
Minnesota Twins Well Represented in MLB Top 100 Prospect Rankings
After Monday’s update, Minnesota now has two top-15 prospects, in Walker Jenkins (5) and Brooks Lee (13), who both moved up three spots. The Twins have five prospects ranked, in total.
Emmanuel Rodriguez and David Festa jumped up too. Luke Keaschall makes his debut on the list. Unfortunately, Gabriel Gonzalez (ranked 86 previously) fell out of the Top 100.
5 . Walker Jenkins (8)
13 . Brooks Lee (16)
27 . Emmanuel Rodriguez (33)
90 . David Festa (99)
95 . Luke Keaschall (NA)
NR : Gabriel Gonzalez (86)
Walker Jenkins (Single-A) is the cream of the crop a real five-tool phenom athlete. Since being drafted No. 5 overall, Jenkins has been among the best prospects in baseball.
He’s an incredible talent, and despite starting the year on the shelf , he has shown a strong process. Arguably the lone untouchable prospect in the system, Jenkins now being among the top five, he isn’t going anywhere.
Brooks Lee is at Triple-A St. Paul knocking on the door for a big league call-up. Emmanuel Rodriguez has now begun to join them in top Twins prospect conversations.
David Festa debuted in the MLB Pipeline rankings last month, after someone else graduated out, moving him from No. 101 to No. 100. He had reached 99, until this update pushed him to 90.
Last week, he also made his MLB debut for the Twins, in an up and down outing vs the Arizona Diamondbacks. Keaschall has torn up the system this year, earning an early promotion to AA-Wichita.
New names among Minnesota Twins top prospects
Lee may be the Twins biggest trade chip this month, and Rodriguez could factor in there as well. The former is healthy and pushing for a roster spot, and will likely get his shot if there’s an injury in the big league infield or Rocco Baldelli finally decides to move on from Kyle Farmer.
Emmanuel Rodriguez is more of a question mark, leading up to the deadline, especially since he is currently on the injured list with a finger sprain. Festa and Keaschall are both new additions to top prospect lists. The pitcher strikes out batters in droves, and although his debut got a bit gaudy, he should remain a rotation option for the rest of the season.
Keaschall is a second baseman that may be destined for the outfield, but his bat provides an opportunity to redo the Tyler Mahle trade that sent Spencer Steer to the Cincinnati Reds, and he could continue to contribute at the highest level.
If the Twins aren’t going to spend money, they’ll need to piece out parts of their farm, but selecting which ones they can ultimately live without is the key to doing it right.
Scouting experts Jonathan Mayo and Jim Callis are widely viewed as two of the best prospect minds in baseball. They, along with Sam Dykstra , are in charge of keeping the league’s official minor league prospect rankings, or the “MLB Pipeline” up-to-date.
