Police are investigating a homicide after a man was found with a fatal gunshot wound in north Minneapolis Friday morning.

Minneapolis PD says it was called to the 2100 block of Thomas Ave North at approximately 7:40 a.m. and arrived to find the wounded man, who was pronounced dead on the scene.

The discovery was made around five hours after ShotSpotter had activated at 2:25 a.m. in the area of 21st Avenue North and Uptown Avenue North, a short distance from where the victim was ultimately found.

Investigators found a crime scene at that location.

"Minneapolis investigators are working to determine the sequence of events that led to the shooting," MPD said.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner will release the victim's name at a later date.
