Vikings' Training Camp Starts On Brutal Note With Injury Blow

The Minnesota Vikings' injury woes have started early this season. Training camp has just begun and yet the team already has a player who may be out for the year.

Vikings cornerback Mekhi Blackmon tore his ACL during the team's first training camp practice at TCO Stadium. While there's no timeline for his return just yet, Blackmon will likely be out for the entirety of the 2024 season.

Blackmon provided invaluable depth for Minnesota's secondary in his rookie campaign last season. Blackmon was a clear breakout candidate heading into his sophomore season. The 25-year-old played in 15 games (3 starts), producing 41 combined tackles and one interception.

With Blackmon sidelined, the Vikings will have to rely much more heavily on projected starters Byron Murphy Jr. and Shaquill Griffin.

Third-year pro Akayleb Evans, who started 15 games for Minnesota last season, will likely receive added burn as well.

The Vikings also lost cornerback Khyree Jackson to a fatal car accident earlier this month. Minnesota drafted Jackson in the 4th round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
