Everything to know about the Basilica Block Party in Minneapolis this weekend

The Basilica Block Party , once a staple of the summer concert season , is returning in 2024.

The two-day festival was canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic, returned in 2021, and then went dark for two years. It's back with the same name, but new location. Due to construction around the Basilica of St. Mary, organizers have moved the party to Boom Island Park .

Where it once featured contemporary headliners like Spoon, Tate McRae, Kacey Musgraves, Black Pumas, and The Avett Brothers (who canceled two days before the show that year), this year's iteration has a distinctly '90s flair with the Goo Goo Dolls and Counting Crows headlining.

Here's everything you need to know to head out the Basilica Block Party's return on Aug. 2 and 3.

Who is performing at the 2024 Basilica Block Party?

Instead of the usual three stages, there will be two at the Basilica Block Party this year, with a main stage headlined by '90s radio rock staples and a second stage presenting a curated lineup of local acts.

On Friday, before the Goo Goo Dolls hit the stage at 8:30 p.m., there will be sets from The Fray (7 p.m.), Dean Lewis (5:30 p.m.), Red Clay Strays (4 p.m.), Yam Haus (2:30 p.m.), and Socktopus (1:15 p.m.)

Saturday's lineup culminates with the Counting Crows (8:30 p.m.), but there will also be performances from Needtobreathe (7 p.m.), Judah & the Lion (5:30 p.m.), Phillip Phillips (4 p.m.), St. Paul and the Minneapolis Funk All Stars (2:30 p.m.), and Guytano (1:15 p.m.).

Off the main stage, Friday's local stage features Run Westy Run, Black Widows, The Ocean Blue, Whiskey Rock and Roll Club, Parishes, and Cindy Lawson.

On Saturday, the local stage has performances from Nur-D, The Mary Jane Alm Band, She's Green, and The Muatas.

How much are tickets to Basilica Block Party?

Tickets are still available for both days. One-day general admission passes cost $99 and weekend passes run $169.

FanZone tickets are $169 for a single day and $299 for both days. Those passes get you access to a better viewing area, dedicated FanZone bars and restrooms, and a pair of drink tickets.

And, of course, there are VIP tickets, which run $349 for a single day and $599 for the weekend. Those come with the best viewing options, a private bar, an air-conditioned tent, "luxury bathrooms," a free meal each day, and a pair of drink tickets.

What else is there to do?

The festival will have plenty of food and beer, with efforts made to keep prices reasonable for an event like this. (That may help offset the ticket price for some concertgoers.) Beer and cocktails start at $7.

There will also be a Ferris wheel on site that will be running into the night.

Yes, you can bring chairs

Unlike most area festivals, general admission ticket holders can bring camp- or stadium-style chairs into the show.

It's still for a good cause

Despite the many changes, the festival is still a non-profit, raising money for The Basilica Landmark , which maintains The Basilica of Saint Mary, and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul , which supports Minnesotans experiencing poverty.
