MINOT, ND ( KXNET ) — Over 70 youth exhibitors joined the North Dakota Stockmen’s Association (NDSA) for the 29th annual North Dakota Junior Beef Expo (NDJBE) in June.

According to a news release, the expo was held on June 21 and 22 at the North Dakota State Fairgrounds in Minot.

“The Junior Beef Expo was started to get more youth interested and involved in the beef industry,” said Trey Klain, an NDJBE chairman. “I enjoyed watching the relationships and skills fostered throughout the contests over the weekend.”

On Friday, the kids played a beef trivia cornhole tournament, with Caleb and Ethan Schwab on Englevale making up the champion team. The reserve team was Cutler Schaunaman from Ashley and Layne Korgel from Minot, and third place went to Kindle Carlson of Finley of Brady Haugen of Hannaford.

Saturday morning started the cattle show, with 73 heifers representing 10 breeds, one commercial cow-calf pair, and 13 market animals. After that, the pee wee, junior, and senior showmanship competitions began.

The supreme champion female was shown by Tyler Schaefer from Des Lacs. The reserve champion female was shown by Zane Lodoen from Westhope.
