A 51-year-old truck driver is dead after an 18-wheeler veered off the road, across a parking lot and into a house for sale in Texas, officials said and news outlets reported.

The big rig was driving along the 2600 block of W. Expressway 83 in Mission on the morning of Saturday, June 29, when it crashed into the home , the Mission Fire Fighters Association said in a Facebook post.

First responders tried to rescue the driver but he was pronounced dead, according to the association, which shared photos from the scene. It’s unclear what caused the big rig to leave the roadway, but it appears to have cut a straight line across a parking lot before coming to a stop deep inside the home.

The house was for sale and a realtor was scheduled to show it on the morning of the crash, new outlets reported. Mission Fire Fighters Association.

Though it was badly damaged, there was nobody inside the structure, police told KVEO.

The house was for sale and an area real estate agent had a showing scheduled for 10 a.m., about an hour after the crash occurred, the outlet reported.

A Fiat was also hit, and the driver was taken to a hospital, where they were last listed in stable condition, police told the station.

Alejandro Avila, an employee at a tire shop next door, saw the massive truck barreling in his direction and ran to safety , he told KRGV.

“I thought it was going to hit our building, so I panicked and probably ran out that back door,” Avila said. “It missed the building by a couple of feet ... no one lives in that house, and thankfully it didn’t hit our building.”

An autopsy has been ordered for the truck driver, officials told the outlet.

Mission is a roughly 250-mile drive south from San Antonio.
