A Mississippi family’s visit to a Florida beach turned into a nightmare when they found their baby unresponsive in the water.

WJHG News in Panama City, Florida, reports that an 11-month-old baby was rescued after a family found the child face down in the water Friday evening.

Emergency officials were called to the Norriego Point Public Beach Access in Destin at approximately 7:30 p.m. Friday.

A family member and a bystander were performing CPR on the child when an official from the Coast Guard arrived on the scene.

Officials from the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office report that EMS and Coast Guard personnel were able to get the baby responsive and breathing before being taken to the hospital.

The baby and parents were reportedly taken to the Coast Guard Destin station to wait for a medical transport helicopter.

Authorities did not have an update on the baby’s condition Saturday, but they confirmed the family is from Mississippi.
