MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — One of Downtown Mobile’s historic churches, St. Louis Street Missionary Baptist Church, celebrated its 171st anniversary Sunday.

The church’s interim pastor said her appointment is a big step forward.

“Traditionally, women were not allowed in such positions, but now we are, and we have stepped in that position, and we are there for a reason,” Interim Pastor Alice Rodgers said.

“We bring the message, and we want people to know that the time is now for us, for us to rise up and be the women that God is calling us to be.”

The church is dedicated to its mission of “Christ, Community and Cause.”
