    Monroe man arrested for allegedly kidnapping victim, threatening her life

    MONROE, La. (KTVE/KARD)– On July 23, 2024, around 8:12 AM, the Monroe Police Department was dispatched to Chase Bank in Monroe, La. in regards to the victim asking the employee to call the police due to 50-year-old Robert Whitfield allegedly making threats to kill her several times and that she was scared that he would do it.

    According to authorities, the victim stated that Whitfield allegedly punched her in the face while in the car and advised him to stop and let her out of the vehicle, but he would not. Officers made contact with the victim, and she stated that Whitfield allegedly told her to get in the car and that they were going to the bank to get his money.

    Authorities learned that she had been staying with Whitfield due to being homeless. She also stated that she received a check for $15,000 and had plans to give Whitfield $2,000 for helping her out. According to authorities, they learned that on July 22, 2024, the victim was trying to leave and Whitfield allegedly told her that he wanted his money and that she could not leave.

    The victim stated that she finally told Whitfield that she needed to check on her dog, and while she was there Whitfield allegedly drove to her house walked into her apartment, and told her “B**** I will kill you if don’t give me my money.”According to officers, the victim called 911 several times but could not talk to dispatch due to Whitfield being there. Officers then made contact with Whitfield and advised him of his Miranda Rights and he stated that he understood them.

    According to authorities, Whitfield was allegedly getting agitated when they started asking him questions, and would not answer any. Whitfield was placed in handcuffs and transported to the Ouachita Correctional Center and charged with Simple Kidnapping, False Imprisonment, Simple Battery, and Simple Assault.
