    30 YEARS AGO: JUNE 30, 1994

    • Monticello phone customers overwhelmingly voted to join the metro calling area.

    • Sister Carolyn Fink of St. Henry’s Catholic Church, known as the painting nun, completed art school.

    • A transportation study was presented before the City Council that focused on the future of County Road 75.

    • The Monticello Middle School Band took first place in the junior division at the Earle Browne Days Parade.

    • After several years without an event button, one was being reintroduced for the 1994 Riverfest.

    15 YEARS AGO: JUNE 25, 2009

    • The Twin Bridge replacement project was slated to begin July 15, MnDOT said at a community meeting.

    • A 22-year-old Wisconsin woman was killed in a two vehicle crash on Interstate 94 near Monticello.

    • There were 292 students graduating from Monticello High School as part of the Class of 2009.

    • Denny Hecker filed bankruptcy as the Ford sign left the Monticello Ford auto dealership.

    • West Metro Buick/Pontiac/GMC and Gould Chevrolet both learned they would keep their franchises. General Motors was canceling deals with dealerships across the state as part of the federally-mandated consolidation of General Motors.
