MONTICELLO — Culver’s on Highway 25 in Monticello hosts classic car cruise nights the first Wednesday of the month from May to September. Seen here are photos from the most recent event, held July 3.

With a portion of the eatery's parking lot closed off to traffic, KRWC 1360 AM Radio for Wright County had a DJ on site playing oldies music and leading attendees in a hula-hooping contest.

A range of cars was on display from practically every era, including the 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s, along with some newer exotic cars — and in every vibrant shade of the rainbow. That included a bright cherry-red pickup truck from the 1950s and an eye-catching purple roadster from the 1930s.

Steve and Virginia Remick of Elk River brought their 1955 Studebaker Commander Regal to the cruise night. The car — which only has 44,000 miles on it — has always belonged to Steve Remick's family, he explained.

"We’ve had it from brand new," he said. "My grandpa and grandma ordered it new from Al Mergens."

His grandparents purchased the car new from Al Mergens Motor Co. in St. Paul for $3,000 back in August 1955. And the Remicks have the paperwork to prove it, with the original invoice, now laminated for safe-keeping, taped to the car's window for all to see.

Clayton Hess of Big Lake Township was showing his canary-yellow 1972 Chevy Nova, which he has slowly been restoring over the past three years, since purchasing the muscle car.

"I’ve slowly been restoring it, just doing more and more stuff to it," he said. "I keep it running every summer."

Tim Erickson of Monticello was showing his 1956 Chevy 210 series, which he has owned for the past 50 years.

“I bought it used for $50,” he said. “Can’t even fill the gas tank up for that now.”

The next classic car cruise night at Culver's will be held Wednesday, Aug. 7 a the Highway 25 fast-food eatery.
