The Monticello Polecats amateur town ball team has had another excellent summer and is ready for the Sauk Valley League playoffs. Three separate win streaks, including one of seven games, helped Monticello go 13-5 over the regular season and 10-1 in league play. After winning their last eight league games, the Polecats won the East by four games over Clearwater.

The Sauk Valley League playoffs begin this week. Monticello plays the Clear Lake Lakers in the opening round on Friday. Monticello beat Clear Lake 14-3 back on Sunday, June 6.

Michael Revenig struck out nine in a complete game victory. Conor Wollenzien and Keenan Macek both led the Polecats with four hits. Macek went 4-for-4 with a double, a triple and five RBI. Caden King (three hits) and Cole Bovee both had multiple RBI. Dustin Wilcox and Nick Lembke had multi-hit games.

The Polecats are 2-1 in July so far. On Wednesday, July 10, Monticello beat Becker 11-1. A day later, Monticello beat Albertville 18-3. On Sunday,

Monticello lost 2-1 to Cold Spring in a non-league game.

Brock Woitalla started the game against Becker on the mound and struck out five in seven innings of work. Isaiah Terlinden pitched a shutout inning in relief.

Jason Axelberg and Wilcox led the team with two RBI each against the Bandits. Wilcox and Woitalla led the team with three hits. Woitalla legged out a triple and Wilcox had a double.

Steven Van Vleet started the game against the Anglers and struck out seven in six innings. Matt Bonk struck out one in one inning out of the bullpen. Six different players had RBIs: Wilcox (four), Macek (three), Bonk (three), Van Fleet (two) and Woitalla and Terlinden with one.

The bats uncharacteristically disappeared against the Springers. Monticello had eight team hits, led by King and Woitalla with three. Wollenzien and Wilcox were the only other batters to record a hit.

Revenig started on the mound and pitched three shutout innings. Axelberg pitched two shutout innings in relief and Terlinden gave up two runs over the final three innings as the Polecats lost by a run.
