Montour County, Pa. — One person is dead and two were injured as a result of an afternoon crash on I-80 westbound today, according to police.

At 2:47 p.m., police responded to a three vehicle crash on Interstate 80 westbound at mile marker 221. According to Pennsylvania State Police, a Roto Rooter truck driven by Nicholas Troxell, 29, was driving eastbound on Interstate 80 when, for unknown reasons, it drove into the west bound lanes.

The truck struck a jersey barrier, became airborne, and then hit a GMC pick-up truck and a tanker truck before it finally came to a stop. The driver of the tanker truck, Brian Penicook, 60, and the Roto Rooter truck sustained minor injuries, according to police.

The 60-year-old driver of the GMC pick-up truck was pronounced dead on the scene, according to police. The identity of the deceased driver has not yet been released.

The crash caused traffic to back up for over 7 miles on I-80 westbound and both sides of I-80 to be closed. The area of road is currently under construction.
