    Severe weather knocks out power for 11,000+ in Monongalia County

    MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WBOY) — More than 11,000 customers in the Morgantown area are without power Tuesday afternoon after severe weather rolled through the area earlier in the day.

    According to Mon Power’s outage map , 11,839 customers in Monongalia County are without power as of 5 p.m. This is approximately 21% of customers served in the county.

    Several tree down calls were reported to Monongalia County 911 Tuesday afternoon, including one in the area of Brookhaven Road which has shut down traffic in the area for “multiple hours,” according to the Monongalia County Emergency Management Agency.

    StormTracker 12 Chief Meteorologist Justin Kiefer reported that wind gusts of up to 59 miles per hour were detected at the Morgantown Airport.

    Mon Power issued a statement on social media saying that crews are working as quickly as possible to restore power amid Tuesday’s extreme heat and asking customers to report any downed power lines to 911.
