MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WBOY) — SNIP WV, the first low-cost animal clinic in north central West Virginia, turned two years old on July 18 and has received an award for its work during that time.

Over the past two years, the organization has neutered and spayed more than 13,000 animals. This month, the non-profit received the Collective Impact 2023 Award from the Best Friends Animal Society in recognition of the clinic’s low-cost program that gives medical access to thousands of animals.

“What really blows me away is that we’ve only been open two years and like we’re already kind of getting recognized for this kind of work, it’s just really, really great—‘cause I just never imagined we’d be there this soon after being open,” SNIP WV’s Executive Director Alyssa Shade said.

The award comes a year after the clinic received a $50,000 grant from Best Friends that Shade said went toward lowering the number of animal euthanizations in Harrison County. “They were euthanizing about 1,200 animals per year and with our TNR programs over the last two years that we’ve been working with them it’s projected that those numbers are gonna be—go down by half this year,” added Shade.

SNIP WV has hosted community events like free vaccine and microchip clinics over the years and said it’s working on bringing those events back in the fall. The locations and times have yet to be announced.
