Medical waste scattered through Knoxville in Peoria
PEORIA (25News Now) - Peoria Public Works had their hands full Friday afternoon when trash from a medical facility was sprinkled throughout Knoxville Avenue. According to Peoria Public Works spokesperson Nick McMillion, at about noon, the department started receiving calls about the trash dispersed on Knoxville between War Memorial and Nebraska.
Pekin’s first Pride Picnic goes perfectly
PEKIN – The Tazwell County seat was the site of its first Pride Picnic last weekend. Even with a little rain, everything went perfectly. Booths from local businesses and community organizations lined the bike path near the 4H Pavillion in Mineral Springs Park on Saturday, Aug. 17. Vendors included local businesses such as nuEra, Pekin Public Library, and High Vibes Stoneshop and non-profits such as Peoria Proud and PFLAG Peoria.
East Bluff intersection to be closed until Thanksgiving
PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — The Peoria Public Works Department will close an East Bluff intersection on Monday to rebuild the pavement and install storm sewers. The department said that beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, Aug. 26, the intersection of East Arcadia and North Wisconsin Avenues will close to all traffic. The closure is scheduled to last until Thanksgiving.

Unemployment rate rises in Illinois despite more jobs added
SPRINGFIELD (25News Now) - Unemployment rose across all 14 of Illinois’ metropolitan areas, even as more jobs were added to the economy. The latest economic report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics showed the Peoria metropolitan area saw the unemployment rate rise to 6.1%, nearly a whole percent point higher than where it was in July of 2023, which was 5.2%. Additionally, non-farm employment in July stayed the same from a year ago with 170,400 jobs.
Washington approves bid for evidence building
