    • A Thurmond man was arrested Wednesday on two felony charges relating to his alleged passing of a counterfeit cashier’s check at State Employees Credit Union on South Franklin Road, according to Mount Airy Police Department reports.

    Dale Steven Wright, 40, of 255 Silver Creek Way, is accused of forgery and uttering a forged instrument. The crime, classified as the obtaining of property by false pretense was reported on April 22, but actually occurred last November, involving the loss of an undisclosed sum of cash.

    Wright was jailed under a $5,000 secured bond and is facing a June 10 District Court date.

    • Joey Keith Caudle, 33, listed as homeless, was charged with second-degree trespassing Monday after being encountered by officers during a welfare check at Mayberry Mall.

    They discovered that Caudle had been banned from the shopping center property nearly seven years ago, in July 2017. He was confined in the Surry County Jail under a $250 secured bond and slated for a June 3 District Court appearance.

    • A traffic crash in the 1000 block of Rockford Street on May 12 resulted in charges of driving while impaired and driving with an open container of an alcoholic beverage against Juan Manuel Hernandez Arellano, 66, of 222 William Penn St.

    Testing revealed Arellano, who was operating a 2002 Toyota Camry, to have a blood-alcohol content of 0.15% nearly double the legal limit for getting behind the wheel.

    He was incarcerated under a $3,500 secured bond, with the case set for the June 10 session of District Court.

    • Kathleen Erin Chandler, 42, of 395 Nichols Road, Pilot Mountain, was charged with carrying a concealed handgun and no operator’s license after a May 5 traffic stop on Carter Street near U.S. 52.

    Chandler is scheduled to be in court on June 3.

    • The Staples store on Rockford Street was the scene of a larceny on April 27, when Staples printing paper and a Staples shopping crate, valued at $25, were taken by an unknown suspect.
