    • A Sunday incident at a local grocery store resulted in a Mount Airy woman being jailed for allegedly assaulting a male acquaintance and inflicting serious injury, according to city police reports.

In addition to that charge, Pamila Lynn Reece, 51, of 407 Bluemont Road, is accused of disorderly conduct by fighting and communicating threats at the ALDI store on State Street.

Rusty Leigh Queen, 47, of Brim Road, is listed as the victim of the incident that involved a loss of teeth and minor injuries otherwise, police records state.

Reece was taken into custody at her home later Sunday and confined in the Surry County Jail under a $10,000 secured bond. She is scheduled to appear in District Court on July 15.

    • Joshua Jack Atkins, 42, of 128 Airview Drive, was arrested Saturday on a felony drug violation, possession of methamphetamine, after he was encountered by officers in reference to a larceny call at Circle K on West Pine Street.

Atkins further was charged with four misdemeanors: possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, simple possession of marijuana, possessing drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana paraphernalia.

He was held in the county jail under a $2,500 secured bond and slated for an appearance in Surry District Court next Monday.

    • Tony Ray Carter, 53, of 1227 Brooklen Ave., was arrested on charges of obtaining property by false pretense, a felony, and second-degree trespassing on May 11 in connection with a case reported at Walmart on May 6.

Carter is said to have taken merchandise off the shelf that day and instead of paying for it, returned the merchandise for a gift card valued at $93.

He subsequently was taken into custody at his home after police went there for a civil disturbance call and jailed under a $500 secured bond. The case is set for the June 10 District Court session.

    • A handgun was discovered stolen from a vehicle on May 11. This occurred at the home of Dequan Alexander Stanley in the 1600 block of South Main Street, where a Glock/G19X valued at $700 was taken from his 2011 Nissan Titan pickup.
