    Lenape High School Graduates Excelled In Spring Collegiate Sports

    Isabella Bordon was on the roster as a sophomore competitor in multiple events for the Rutgers University (Camden campus) women’s outdoor track and field program.

    MOUNT LAUREL, NJ — The outdoor portion of the collegiate athletic season is now complete and it’s a good time to take a glance at local student athletes from Mount Laurel who made a name for themselves in sports right here in New Jersey and beyond.

    Shelby Whetstone was a graduate student who competed in middle distance runs for the Rutgers University (New Brunswick campus) women’s track and field program this past season. Whetstone placed fifth in the 800 meter run at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships hosted by the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Whetstone qualified for the NCAA Championship meet hosted by the University of Oregon in Eugene.

    The Scarlet Knights placed eighth in the team scoring at the Big Ten Championships. Whetstone is listed as a Public Health major.

    Matt Soutar was a graduate student on the roster of the Rutgers University (New Brunswick campus) men’s lacrosse team this past season. Soutar competed in 12 games and won 26 ground balls for Rutgers.

    The Scarlet Knights tallied an overall record of 7-7 with three wins on their home field and one victory in the Big Ten Conference. Rutgers advanced to the Big Ten Tournament where they were defeated by Penn State in a contest held in University Park, Pennsylvania.

    Isabella Bordon was on the roster as a sophomore competitor in multiple events for the Rutgers University (Camden campus) women’s outdoor track and field program. Bordon placed second in the heptathlon at the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Stockton University in Galloway Township. She earned Second Team All NJAC honors this year.

    The Scarlet Raptors placed eighth in the team scoring at the NJAC Championships. Bordon is listed as a Health Sciences major.

    Maya Knasiak was a freshman pitcher for The College of New Jersey (Ewing) softball squad this year. Knasiak appeared in 19 games and started in 15 of them for TCNJ. She had a 9-4 pitching record with an earned run average of 1.76, Knasiak struck out 122 batters (team lead) and had two saves (team lead). Knasiak earned New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Rookie Pitcher of the Week on three occasions.

    The Lions had an overall record of 26-11 with a mark of 7-4 at home and 12-6 in the NJAC. TCNJ competed in the NJAC Tournament where they topped Stockton University and lost to Rowan University and Ramapo College. Knasiak is listed as a Mechanical Engineering major.

    Tommy Kohler was a freshman pitcher for The College of New Jersey baseball team this spring season. Kohler appeared in two games and struck out two batters for TCNJ.

    The Lions posted an overall record of 23-17 with seven wins on their home field. In the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) they went 9-9. TCNJ advanced to the NJAC Tournament where they toppled Stockton University and Rutgers-Camden and lost to Ramapo College and Rowan University.
