Shots fired during Hoffman Estates home invasion
HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. - Hoffman Estates police have launched an investigation after shots were fired during a home invasion in the northwest suburb. Officers received a report of a home invasion around 10 p.m. Monday in the 2000 block of Kettering Road. Upon arrival, police saw evidence of forced entry on the front door and bullet holes in the drywall of the residence.

Proviso Math and Science Academy loses millions in fraudulent fund transfers
On June 24, the superintendent of Proviso Math and Science Academy called to report fraudulent transfers of funds, according to a police report. Officials said he told them an unknown offender, using the name Gilbane Building Company online, transferred over $949,000 on March 8 and $3.9 million on June 14 from the school. While Gilbane Building Company has a relationship with the school, the offender is not associated with the company, according to the police report. Police said the superintendent was unable to provide them with information about how the transfers occurred but told officers he reported them to the FBI’s Chicago Field Division.
Dunkin’ customer steals money from cash register
A man placed an order June 25 at the Dunkin’ Donuts at 7117 North Ave. when the employee opened the cash drawer. The man jumped over the counter and stole money from the register. The man pushed the employee’s hands away when the employee tried to stop him. The man then fled in a black Chevrolet HHR with yellow temporary tags. The estimated loss is $500.

Chicago physician pleads guilty to $2.4M fraud scheme
A physician in the Chicago suburbs has pleaded guilty to a $2.4 million healthcare fraud scheme of billing Medicaid and private insurers for nonexistent services. From 2018 to 2022, Mona Ghosh, MD, owner and operator of the Hoffman Estates, Ill.-based medical office Progressive Women's Healthcare, submitted and caused her employees to submit fraudulent claims to Medicaid, TriCare and other insurers, the Justice Department said in a July 1 news release.
Chicago Man Charged with Burglary in DuPage and Cook County Liquor Store Thefts
Following a collaborative law enforcement effort, Attorney General Kwame Raoul has brought charges against a Chicago man, accused of participating in a series of suburban burglaries. Isiah Doss, 25, faces three counts of Class 2 felony burglary after allegedly playing a role in a burglary ring that honed in on liquor stores across DuPage and Cook counties. In a recent release from the Illinois Attorney General's office, these counts carry penalties of up to seven years in prison per charge.
