ROSEMONT, Ill. — The Big Ten Conference is celebrating its 110th class of recipients who earned the Big Ten Medal of Honor from their respective institutions during the 2023-24 academic year. Established in 1915, the Big Ten Medal of Honor is the conference’s most prestigious award. It was the first award in intercollegiate athletics to demonstrate support for the educational emphasis placed on athletics.
Realistic expectations for Northwestern football in 2024
When Northwestern football was gearing up for the 2023 season, no one expected that the Wildcats would be doing so without long-time head coach Pat Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald was fired amid a scandal that rocked the program and he was replaced by assistant coach David Braun who was expected to be an interim. But after having a successful 8-5 season which shocked the Big Ten, capped off by a win over Utah in the Las Vegas Bowl, the full-time tag for Braun seemed more than earned.

Indiana reaches the halfway point of the 2024 season with a road game at Northwestern. The Wildcats are playing their home games this year at alternate sites, with Ryan Field under construction. They were one of the biggest surprises in the country last year — coming off a 1-11 season in 2022 and after firing head coach Pat Fitzgerald in July in the wake of hazing allegations, Northwestern enjoyed a winning season under Big Ten Coach of the Year David Braun.

Residential burglary – Police responded to the 200 block of LeParc Circle for a report of a residential burglary. The resident said that someone entered their home between approximately11 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. and took various items. Reports did not indicate what was taken or how entry was gained. The investigation is ongoing.
Kuumba Evanston Olympic Games build character in young athletes
Sunday’s closing ceremony might have marked the end of the inaugural Kuumba Evanston Olympic Games, but the values the camp instilled in its kids will live forever. The event, in Beardsley Gym at Evanston Township High School, was the culmination of three weeks of Olympic-style games for more than 220 students in third, fourth and fifth grades. The camp included 17 Olympic sports, ranging from flag football and volleyball to lacrosse and fencing. Practices went on throughout the week and matches were held on weekends. Kids were encouraged to participate in as many sports as their schedule allowed.

NCAA, Former Northwestern Assistant Baseball Coach Reach Agreement on Recruiting Violations
Northwestern and former baseball assistant coach Brian Anderson have reached an agreement with NCAA enforcement staff on recruiting violations and the appropriate penalties for those violations. A Committee on Infractions panel has approved the agreement. Another former coach, meanwhile, has contested some of the violations, and his portion of the case will be considered separately by the committee.

Outfielder Caroline Jacobsen has signed for the 2024 Athletes Unlimited Pro Softball Championship season. It will be her second campaign with the league. Jacobsen finished 19th in 2023 with 1,308 leaderboard points. She was one of three rookies to be named to the AU Pro Softball All-Defensive Team. She tallied seven hits, including three doubles and a home run.
