KEYSER — Hampshire High’s new head coach, Donny Evans preaches about doing the little things right and the big things, like wins, will follow. The Trojans certainly did all the small things right when they made their way to Keyser for the first 7 on 7, and Big Man competition event of the year. The Big Man competition tests the strength and agility of the linemen. A Facebook post recapping the event simply stated, ‘How bout those Trojans?’ after the young Hampshire football team enjoyed an undefeated evening in Tornado Alley, while taking home second place in the Big Man competition.
Myles Lacy crowned King of Marbles
The Wildwoods concluded the 101st Annual National Marbles Tournament on Thursday, June 20, celebrating the crowning of the new King and Queen of Marbles. Myles Lacy, 9, of Clay County, TN, claimed the Boy’s title. Katelynn Gaumer, 13, of Cumberland, MD was crowned National Girl’s Marbles Champion.
Bedford Boro moves ahead with social drinking district

Death of beloved UPS driver mourned
Eastern Hampshire County last week mourned the passing of a beloved, long-time United Parcel Service driver. Van Gaus, 56, of Cumberland, Md., was found dead in his truck Tuesday of an apparent heart attack. His was a familiar, beloved face on the route that included the Capon Bridge area. An outpouring of tributes on social media followed news of his death.

Norma L Pile (Barnhart), of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2024. A native of Stoystown, PA, she was born on May 28, 1930 to the late David and Fern Barnhart. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Pile, sister Joan Zimmerman, and brother Lynn Barnhart.

Roberta Lois Miller, 93, Meyersdale, died July 4, 2024 at Misty's Urban Manor. Born in Salisbury on August 2, 1930 to the late Robert and Eva (Meese) Landis. Preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Miller. Sisters, Dorothy June and Anna Landis. Survived by her son, James Robert (Gloria) Miller. Daughters, Rebecca Ann (Gerhard) Kaselow and Lisa Michele Miller. Grandchildren; Mary Beth (Colonel Paul) Cote, Lieutenant Colonel Michael (Adrienne) Sines, Tess Elizabeth (Aaron) Schafer, and Andrew James (Lucaya) Miller. Great Grandchildren; Marina, Aiden, and Bridget Cote, Lily and Owen Sines, and Finley Schafer. Roberta was a member of the Meyersdale Grace Brethren Church where she was the organist for many years. She volunteered at the Historical Society. Roberta and her husband were very involved in community activities. Roberta played the organ in hundreds of weddings. Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at Meyersdale Grace Brethren Church from 2-4:00 PM and 6-8:00 PM. Viewing at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 prior to the Funeral Service at 11:00 AM at the Church with Pastor Randy Haulk officiating, Interment will be in the Meyersdale Area Union Cemetery. EBENSBURG — Bedford Post 113 broke a 3-3 tie with 2 runs in the top of the sixth and put the game away with 6 runs in the seventh to earn an 11-3 road victory, Wednesday. Dunham's Walk-Off Lifts Somerset Over Reading In Series Opener
The Somerset Patriots walked-off the Reading Fightin Phils in a 7-6 victory on Monday night in game one of a six-game series at TD Bank Ballpark. Somerset stole a season-high seven bases in the contest, which matches the single game Patriots Double-A era record. The Patriots have won six of their first seven games to begin the second half of the season. Over the first seven games of the second half, Somerset leads all of Double-A with a .291 BA, 52 R, 73 H, 32 XBH, and 124 TB as a team.
