MUNCIE, Ind. — A Muncie man was convicted of a murder stemming from 2022 that left a teen with seven gunshot wounds outside of a bar near Ball State’s campus.

Malek Williams, 23, was convicted of Murder, a Felony, after the jury deliberated for three hours.

“I am glad the jury saw through the Defendant’s ridiculous claim of self-defense. You do not get to chase a person down, repeatedly shoot them in the back and then claim self-defense,” said Attorney Eric Hoffman

According to the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney in Delaware County, Williams admitted that he used a firearm to commit the murder. The Firearm Enhancement can add an additional 5-20 years to the total sentence.

“Although Que’Aundre Johnson is no longer with us, hopefully this provides some justice to his family and friends,” said Delaware County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Andrew Ramirez.

Que’Aundre Johnson, of Marion, was killed at 19-years-old on West University Avenue and Dill Street in Muncie.

Sentencing is set for Aug. 29, 2024 at 1:30 p.m. Murder is punishable by 45-65 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.
