MURRELLS INLET, S.C. (WBTW) — A 75-year-old Charleston man died Sunday evening in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 17 near Murrells Inlet, according to the Georgetown County Coroner’s Office.

Authorities said Luther Rivers was driving a 2011 Honda Accord that was involved in a collision with a 2023 Subaru Outback near the intersection with Highway 17 Business. A passenger in Rivers’ car and the Subaru driver were both taken to the hospital, but there’s no additional information about their injuries.

The crash happened at about 6 p.m., according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol. Troopers returned to the area on Tuesday to perform accident reconstruction as part of the investigation.
