    Salinas police and U.S. Marshals arrest man in fatal shooting

    SALINAS, California — A 58-year-old man was fatally shot Sunday morning in Salinas, and police have arrested a man in connection with the incident.Salinas Police Officers responded to a report of a man down in the roadway in the 2200 block of North Main St. at approximately 7:10 a.m. on August 11, 2024. Upon arrival, they found Saul Guadalupe Santos suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Santos was transported to a local hospital but succumbed to his injuries, according to the Salinas Police Department.The investigation revealed that Santos was near his parked vehicle when the individual approached, shot him multiple times, and fled in the victim's vehicle. The vehicle was later recovered on California St.Through the course of the investigation, Salinas Police Detectives identified 23-year-old Ismael Zendejas Lopez as the alleged shooter. On August 15, 2024, Salinas Police Detectives, Patrol Officers, and members of the US Marshals Service Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Taskforce located Zendejas Lopez in the area of Front St. and W. Alisal St. He was arrested without incident and later booked at the Monterey County Jail.While Zendejas Lopez is in custody and there are no additional suspects outstanding, the investigation remains active.
