Willamalane kicks off annual summer concert series
SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – Willamalane’s annual Concerts in the Park series is on for the summer, with the fun kicking off on Wednesday night at Island Park in Springfield. Performing at this summer’s inaugural July 17 concert was the Sugar Beets, a Eugene-based band that performed traditional and contemporary bluegrass, folk, and country songs. The concert saw the biggest turnout in several years, according to organizers. Willamalane staff said that, in addition to a good time for attendees, Concerts in the Park is all for a good cause as Willamalane raised $1,000 for its food pantry and collected more than 1,500 pounds of food donations.

The Friends of the North Bend Public Library will hold a book sale in August with two times to shop. Members of the Friends can shop the sale on Friday, August 23 from 4:00 PM-6:00 PM. The book sale will be open to the public on Saturday, August 24 from 10:00 AM-4:00 PM. The sale will include hundreds of gently used hardback and paperback books and DVDs. Friends’ memberships can be purchased at the book sale or in advance at the North Bend Public Library for an annual membership of $15. The Friends of the North Bend Public Library is a group of volunteers that exist to support the needs of the library. Past donations from the Friends have been used to support NBPL Summer Reading Program, Title Wave, the Library building renovation, and to supplement the library’s book and media collection with special purchases for adults, young adults, and children. Oregon faces long wildfire season as new fires spark and lightning, evacuations mount
Oregon’s wildfire season is off to a busy start, and it's expected to stay that way the rest of the summer, Gov. Tina Kotek acknowledged at a Friday news conference. A whopping 434,821 acres in 30 large wildfires have burned in the state already this season, in addition to issuing 88 evacuation orders and warnings. The number of acres burned this season is already more than all of last year and almost more than all of 2022.
