ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Winnebago County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Larry Wright Jr., 43, for allegedly trying to disarm an officer among a slew of other charges.

On August 6th, around 9:30, Deputies were on patrol in the area of Clifton and Marchesano Avenue when they saw a Ford SUV driving north on Clifton Avenue with one working headlight, according to police.

Officials said they followed the SUV which continued driving while were following behind with their emergency lights and sirens on. Eventually, the suspect stopped and the police asked him for his license and he said he did not have one, according to court documents.

Authorities said they asked Wright to get out of the Ford, searched him and felt suspected narcotics in his pocket. They proceeded to attempt to handcuff when he pulled away quickly, according to officials.

A deputy said he activated a Taser when the suspect slapped at the Taser, cursed at the official and started fleeing. Authorities confirmed Wright had a warrant out of county for driving on a revoked license while he was fleeing.

The suspect ran to his residence in the 1000 block of Hopkins Street and was arrested without incident, according to court records.

Authorities took him back to the scene because one of the officers wanted to talk to him. Under Miranda, he told officials he ran because he was scared and the bulge in his pocket was cannabis.

Wright was lodged on his warrant and was charged with 2 counts of driving on a revoked license, aggravated battery of an officer, attempting to disarm an officer, resisting an officer, driving on a revoked registration, unlawful possession of cannabis while driving, unsafe equipment, headlight violation, failure to display a registration plate and operating an uninsured vehicle.
